WHY THE FUCK DO WE NOT HAVE H&M IN AUSTRALIA?!!

jealous, jealous, jealous!!

    • “us aussie’s are so disadvantaged in terms of fashion!”

i have to disagree w/ you, loretta. there are so many talented aussie designers. making ORIGINAL stuff, often in Australia.

it broke my heart seeing all the sheep lining up outside zara when it opened in melbourne last year. badly-made catwalk rip-offs, nothing more.

obtain some via ebay if you must, but you are just feeding the parasites who buy up everything

      • well, i agree with you both.

we really do have so many great local designers, though they tend to be on the more expensive side (well, for me, anyway). our high street pretty much sucks, though, and i think that’s why people jumped on board zara and gap (ugh) so quickly (won’t put topshop in that category though: i love topshop, though i’ve yet to be to the melbourne shop).

but marni truly are original, and whilst i really, really, REALLY would love to buy one of their necklaces i just can’t justify the expense (yet), so their colab with h&m brings that possibility a little closer. in this case it’s a copy of their own work, and i think that’s completely okay :)

  1. I take your point annelouise, the collection itself was, in places, lovely. My issue is with ebay parasites selling on products brought expressly for the purpose.

Ebay UK is already full of inflated prices, they are even selling the plastic carry bags… for £12.99 ?!

I went to H&M in Munich this morning and lined up for about 45 minutes before being let into the shopping section; no time limit or whistles, like a friend in London reported, just lots of eagle-eyed shoppers. Two ladies were buying everything they could get their hands on and attracted much disdain from the staff and other shoppers as a result.

The packaging is lovely, with calico dust bags for all shoes & bags and suit bags for dresses, and they gave you the branded hangers as well. (Smart move, because they can’t exactly use them again.)

    • oh, you are very lucky to have avoided the crowds…

and i checked out ebay: ridiculous. i also saw people selling coat hangers and dust bags (who would buy these?!)

and i agree with your point about the people just buying things to sell them on again: not fair / selfish / greedy / *$$&^$ / etc. it sucks. the ‘only one of each item’ rule doesn’t really stop them, either: they’ll just get a load of different items instead. it sucks.

and the petrol green necklace set is going for about $150aud. grr. that’s too much for me, unfortunately…

      • I too wonder just who would buy a dust bag. What exactly does that achieve? Brand-whoring taken to a new low.

Your petrol-toned necklace was popular and already sold out this morning. Much of the jewelry didn’t look so great up close, to be honest. (If it makes you feel better!)

For your own (more unique) piece of Marni, try the consignment secondhand stores next time you are in a wealthy European city. Much more random but infinitely more rewarding. Nicely-looked after Marni crops up quite often here in Munich, for below £100.

  2. postscript: despite everything Marni pretty much selling out on the first day, a bunch of stuff turned up in the online H&M sale about a month ago! Just thrown in with all the other H&M sale lines, I only saw it because I filtered my search to ‘gold’ and there were the purple brocade tops and pants, reduced to clear!
